Why not align at the right? If he fills out the left side, it will look much better. I think that if you stretch the header over to the left a bit more, and then add a side bar for blogroll, archives, etc down the left side it would look quite nice. I really like the yellow and blue as well. Maybe adding some sort of stroke around the post boxes in a slightly darker grey would spice up the content area a bit more.
