is the web site you've built database driven? but honestly i would suggest you go with wordpress, i realise you said you don't want to use wordpress but its an extremely strong script and will take care of all the RSS bits and bobs, There are a number of guides which will show you how to set up a wordpress blog on the internet if you google "Setting up a wordpress blog" im sure you'd get along just fine.
