counter-strike low fps?
Hey,
I thought I'd install steam again, and counter-strike, but it's not working properly.
My fps is about 30 when I play and 60 when I'm not connected.
Do you guys know how to get that up? My card is an fx5200
I know, old crap, but counter-strike used to work even on the most crappy computers!
Is there anything I can do?
I don't want to buy a new cards yet.
Thanks!

Here are a few commands you can input into the console to try and up your FPS:
r_mmx 1
gl_polyoffset 25
fps_max 100
Make sure that Vertical Sync is turned off in your graphics card application settings too.

r_mmx 1 : enables the mmx process in your graphics card drivers (works with nvidia only and some of the latest ati models)
gl_polyoffset 25 : reduces the thickness of models in game to make it lighter on the graphics processor.
fps_max 100 : sets your FPS to 100 by default
Vertical Sync is a setting that refines the graphics by scanning the models vertically every 5 seconds, it severely reduces game speed and frames per second unless you have a top spec machine.

If your playing Counterstrike SOURCE, that could be one of the reasons :P. Its a new upgraded version they made a while ago but with all new enhanced graphics. That could be the reason? I dunno, im stupid. But the old old counter strike should work fine.

With a 5200fx, feel lucky for 1fps.
