Is just a quick one I found.. You want top of the line (providing your laptop can handle it) Get one that supports gigabit wan.

Edit... wan not lan.

The real limitation will likely be your notebook rather than your router. A Linksys or Belkin will run you 50$-ish USD and should do the trick nicely. Most notebooks have rather limited range due to the compactness.

Ya, any laptop with a built in card will have limited reception, but especially limited out put DB levels.

How bout this... how far from your desk(where ever the router will go) to the outside wall? And from the outside wall how far to where you want to be in the yard?

For example, right now I am in the coffee chop by ISU... Across the street (250 or so feet) is the Bagelry... the wifi is blitzing out here, so I'm connected to the 802.11g Bagelry wifi... It would appear they are using a regular old Lynksis.

i have a D-Link DI-624

there's another version of it that has increased range but i can use my laptop a good 50 feet away with great connection speed (from my 1.5mbps DSL). I'd suggest D-Link but that comes from personal preference.

I use belkin, it gets great speeds, i get around 10 mbps , and i get 15 when i use a network cord, so i assume 10 mbps is the routers top speed, im very happy with it but it doesnt work on vista yet :/
