Starting off...
When starting off in template buying/selling etc, what tips can you give? I'm currently improving my graphics design and template design skills in order to compete properly in this market - but I'm not sure how tough the market actually is, as I have tried selling a few templates to no avail.
Any tips anyone?

The problem could be any of these:
- Your designs aren't up to par.
- You're charging too much.
- Poor marketing.
Take a look at www.templatemonster.com or any other popular template site, and see what you're up against. If you can't produce something better than what they've got, you need to improve.

Personally, I think your entire problem is that right now the template market just sucks. It's gone down hill really--only people that buy from it are the penny pinchers(trust me, this is a client to stay away from.), others that aren't want custom.

Loose any creativity and design sense you may have, forget about trying anything different or being unique, follow the current market trends and recreate it as best you can and make sure every design you create looks practically identical.
Dont think it will work? It will. Thats what about 90% of designers do and they sell about 90% of the designs they create.
Oh yeah and don't forget to label everything you make as "web2.0 st.y.le"!
PS. Don't do this please! - It's just a joke!
