Need a good host.
Hey guys,
I am looking for a seriously good web host. I don't want people advertising their own web host company in this topic. If you still do, it shows that you cannot read and I will report you.
Now that I have that cleared up, lets see what I need:
* Wildcard subdomains enabled on server
* Daily backups made of files and databases
* Reseller plan
* PHP, MySQL & Ruby on Rails
I want a web host with knowledgeable staff. That understand how to run a web host, manage their servers and can get things up quickly incase something would go wrong. I want a host that bills you on time. I want a host that lets you know if there was any downtime, and ifso, for how long and why. Last but not least, I want a host that has a forum so I can chat with other customers.

As demanded, Site5.com should be everything you need.

Hmm, check out Reseller Zoom. I think they'll have what you are looking for. However, you are demanding a lot of service for the little amount that you'll pay per month for hosting. And most companies will probably leave the backups for you to do.

I currently have an account with hostgator, however I don't like them to be honest. I don't mind how much I pay, I just want good reliable hosting. Resellerzoom doesnt allow Ruby on rails

I've been with Site5 since 2003 and wouldn't dream of moving away from them! Their support is great from the most basic hand-holding through to very technical support queries.
At the moment they have an offer on for a reseller account going at $20/month with a $100 rebate so really it's $11.67 per month. For a reseller with these features, I don't think you'd mind the cost at all!
If I remember rightly, only the 'primary' domain will have wildcard subdomains enabled by default. However to enable it for a resold domain just takes a quick support email and they'll set it up for you straight away.
Also regarding the community/forums, that box is ticked: http://forums.site5.com/
Obligatory flashy banner with affiliate link. Go on, help me out.

I wouldnt recommend Reseller Zoom. I have had a few resellers in the past and from modvps, and hostingzoom, servers down all the time without notice and mysql failed for no reason aswel.
Site5.com is still probably my best option, even though i'm not 100% with them. Overselling and all..
