It basically gives your site its own IP, rather than having your site springing from a shared IP. For example if you're on a shared IP there will be several sites operating from it, rather than just yours.

I see...so what benefit does that give me lol. It's just I was over at wht and there was a thread regarding this, people seem to pay more money for their own IP, why would anyone need a dedicated IP?

I have a static IP at home, it means I can run a server from home if I wish to.

From a hosting provider I am surprised of this service for you, are you paying a premium for it?

I have a dedicated IP with my reseller account. It gives you the opportunity to have your site and your site ONLY running off of one IP address (making your site load faster) rather than having 200 other websites running off the same IP address (making your site load slower).

You must have a rather large account? Not to many companies pass out blocks of ips unless they are paying decent for it.

Erm, IP's tend to go for about $2/month each

They are usually purchased in blocks however by large companies, then sold individually. I was just asking since most hosting companies like to reserve dedicated ips to large accounts. I was just saying they don't usually pass out blocks, because if they were putting a unique ip on every single shared account,--i would think it would be quite bothersome and wasteful.

Site5 give you a dedicated IP on all accounts, it's part of their "super features".
