I personally used fatnetwork for many years without problems, and never got any complaints about bandwidth, space, etc. With that being said, I did just recently move host because I did have some issues as some vbulletin forums I had were using alot of resources and I required my own server.
For the money, I say they are worth it. Rick Oxford and his staff are quick to respond to problems, and downtime was minimal... yes I had some downtime... but I don't know of a single host that doesn't experience two or three periods throughout the year of downtime.
I actually found them through ebay and thought the same thing... big scam. But again, for the money they were worth it. Anyway, I'd say gove them a try... Some people from what I have read on other forums say they are terrible, but my experience overall was satisfactory. Just my 2 cents.

It's not a scam Village Idiot, it's just a marketing ploy lots of company use. They know people will be attracted by it but a majority hardly use any anyway!

Most hosting companies have a clause in the TOS that says you can't use "excessive CPU resources that affect the performance of the server." So basically, yes, there is a limit of how much space and bandwidth you can or cannot use - and it isn't determined by the customer.
