Thoughts on .mobi
Hey all,
All this time it's been out but I hadn't relised a new domain ending had been released:
.mobi
It's targetted mainly at websites for mobile phones etc.
Discuss!

I dunno, to me it is ruined/tacky due to its resemblance to Moby, the artist.

I don't think there is really any need for it...
It just seems like another name to be snatched up by domain buyers

Ya, as said above, so tacky and useless. This adding of TLDs for no good reason is reach the point of fragmenting the online world... Not yet, but if it keeps up.

Yes, it'll be interesting to see say in 15 years how many domain extensions we'll all have to try to remember. They'll eventually draw the line, but will it be too late?

I think that the only reason they should make domains is for Countries, when they try to promote something, its always tacky.
.travel
.xxx
.mobi
and countless others.

Many domainers don't see use for the TLD, I don't either.
I guess some top-level domains are good for it, like Ringtones.MOBI, but then you have to consider the fact that ordinary people are exposed to .com, .net, .org, and country code domains more than anything else - meaning - I doubt if someone saw "ringtones.mobi" on a television comercial they'd know what it is.

I thought we were heading the way of making normal websites more accessible by phones and PDAs, so I don't see the use of a .mobi domain extension.

.name is quite a few years old.
.mobi is awful. Think about how many keys you need to press to just type it in.
