What actually is the purpose of XHTML? I have my page coded with valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional, but am not sure what the difference between XHTML and HTML... except the difference in how you have to code html tags/attributes?

What really looks like it's promising is XHTML 2.0.

xHtml is the more advanced form of html or rather it's the EXACT same thing with many restrictions. There are rules such as you can't use certain tags (<center> etc..), you have to end certain tags with a /...and so on. xhtml is simply much more cleaner version of html and the future of webpages Btw XHTML has nothing to do with XML...just a side note

It actually does. It is an application of XML that uses a strickter SGML parser based on XML syntax.

In XHTML all tags must be lowercase. <br /> is XML compliant as its XHTML, rather than <br> as html format.

Dude, XML and XHTML are two different things. XHTML is based on XML but it is not XML. That's what I meant. People usually tend to think that they are the same thing.

That can be achieved just by using a strict doctype in HTML.
