#2 looks nice, its just not as good as #1. Honestly I say stick with #1 and blow off #2.

I'm having a hard time picturing #2. I understand that you need to protect your work, but the water mark is to dark for me to get a good idea on how the site will look.

I like number 1 in this case.
Number 2 could be good, it just looks plain, kinda just 2 toned sorta say.

#2 is to plain, it feels like it is missing something. I think #1 looks more professional, because its not following all of the current trends of web design. It looks different.
I find that every time you update your portfolio, I like the previous design better. They are all good designs nevertheless.
