  Old  Question on possibilities?

Alright i have been reading a lot about xhtml and css recently, and I keep reading about no tables etc etc.. I'm not ready for this step yet, but wouldn't you need tables in some cases, such as in a design like this:

www.moriar.com/dbolt/dboltfinal.html

or could you really do this all in xhtml and css without a single table?

It just doesnt seem possible to me yet, but maybe I am wrong, and knowing whether or not it is possible would make me learn that much harder if it is, since I was told the code on my site was utterly garbage. The code is awful, but I'm still learning, and I have a buyer for my site if i can fix the code up, so that is why I am curious as to whether or not i still need tables.

Yes, that site could totally be done without tables.

Here are some of my sites that I've made without a single table...
http://www.ukguest.com
http://www.contemplate.us
http://www.yournewdesigner.com <-- my first tableless effort and fugly coding
http://www.designagency.us/dev1/index2.html

Hopefully they will serve as some kind of example to you

Good luck with ditching tables, it's not as hard as it initially seems... I used tables for 7 years before going all table free CSS/XHTML last year

now is this just a matter of how i slice it up, instead of slicing it into about 75 slices or so, would i make it much simpler, and mainly slice the big areas that would make it a bucnh of bg images?

You can use tables there. Like for the stats in the bottom left corner. Thats tabular data. Also, any news thats brought up from the mySQL database can be stored in a table if desired(optional).

Use tables for data.
For design, css is better.
