Starting a website..
I've been contacted by a client who wanted a logo from me and I said fine of course I'll do it.. Now, he is willing to pay with money but then he also offered me that I could get a website (a .com one) for free for a year. This is not the problem.. I just want to hear how important, or how much more noticed you get by having your own portfolio/website online.
I already have a portfolio over at deviantArt.com with almost 17,500 pageviews and still growing steadily day after day. This is where I can be contacted and it's free and therefore also very easy. With a new website a lot of work comes with it, right?
What are the pros and cons?
Hmm.. and I can't code either. :P I only do the layouts. I might turn the offer down and just take the money.

Hey,
Link to your devientart? Depending on how much it is, just ask for a money equivelant. A domain for a year is just $7.99. If hes paying you More than $20 then make sure you take that.
Dont get scammed!
Having a website portfolio is alot better than a devientart in my oppinion, but still keep it.
Good luck

My deviantart portfolio is http://ivelt.deviantart.com
Damn you're right.. didn't think about that.
Why is it better? How long does it take for it to get noticed by people? I guess advertising will help a great deal but that costs money as well.

if your ivelt, I like your logos especially the 33 one and I like the Metro Lyrics template
Just get a domain yourself, also you would need to advertise your service w/ your website to get more known. I'll stick with your dA account for the time being imo

I was looking through your gallery and saw some client work, are they contacting you on your dA? or do you find them on the dA forums?

Most of the time they just add me from my dA account but I also visit the forums from time to time.
I also enjoy going to sitepoint.com and enter some contests.

Good, never accept a domain then. I say design a portfolio, buy a decent domain. Hire a GOOD coder for more than $100 then stick your portfolio in your footer, whenever advertising your services make sure a portfolio link is included etc. I dont recomend paying for advertising, just word of mouth
