  Old  Advertising

I'm about to start a new site and have been approached by an advertiser and they want their add on the site for a year. I thought that sounded like a good deal but I wasn't to sure, it has it's pros' and cons'.

Should I accept for a year? Or should I change to per month or xxx page impressions.

I was thinking of impressions but what if the adds don't work for the company, they wouldn't come back to me and i would loose them after xxx page impressions, but if I get them for a year they are stuck in.

So basically my question to all of you is how do sell advertising space on your website?

How much are they going to pay you for a year?

Because if your site becomes very popular they could be getting very, very cheap advertising for the number of hits they would get in return.

I would take the advert, tie them into a long term contract Besides if your site becomes big you can always turn it into a rotator or something or offer other positions. If they start paying per month, chances are they won't bother renewing.

How2Freelance that was my concern as well, I thought that they could be getting it way to cheap, and Robson if I get them into a contract how can i turn them into a rotator without screwing up the contract?

Maybe I should just stick with 6 months instead of a year...

Just tell them you may be rotating there ad at some point if the site becomes popular. See what they say. Are you known for creating really popular sites? I would only take this offer if the price amount was pretty good.

No, I have never 'created' a site as such, I have only designed. But that market is open for this kind of site so we think it will work, as I said we have already been approached and the site hasn't even started development so we must be doing something right.

I'll keep the rotating banner in mind I'll suggest that to them and see what they say.
