Blender - 3D Modeling App
Wasn't sure where to place this topic, either in web design resources, or the photography area But 3D can be used for anything, but I've been using it lately in a lot of photographs so I've thoughtfully placed it in this category.
Anyways, Blender is the open source software for 3D modeling, animation, rendering, post-production, interactive creation and playback. Available for all major operating systems under the GNU Public License.
My friend is using it for his coursework at A Level to help him understand the concept of art and physical structure of animals and I must say I'm impressed with how easy he's picked it up, it's very easy to use and is very powerful.

but the user interface is horrible.
I'm impressed with what blender can do, but until the user interface is made more user friendly, I wont be using it.

Really? I've used 3DSM before briefly and Blender looks better, and easier.. Oh well each to their own
What other 3D software apps would you recommend instead?

Maya!
I agree, Blender doesn't have a very user-friendly interface. =/

I used to play with Blender a bit and once you get used with the interface it gets quite easy.

I've used Blender and it has a lot of hotkeys. I think its interface is geared towards power users, it is a very cool tool if you happen to have good coding skills. I used it for applied physics and materials engineering, very good app.

Out of all the programs that I have used, I like Maya the best. If price is an issue, then Blender is the obvious choice.
