£50 for a provisional license
£300+ for lessons
£35 theory test
£60 practical test
£1100+ insurance
(rough prices)
So in total atleast $2,500, just got get on the road.
Then there's petrol, tax, MOT, general maintainance.

Wow, that insane. Driving school is normally provided complimentary with highschool , but can be private for about $300 (£214). It only costs a few dollars to take the test and get your license. The test is so easy almost anyone can do it.

Pretty much correct.
I paid:
£360 for 18 lessons
£35 theory test
£60 practical test
£1400 car
£1900 first years insurance, £1100 second years insurance
£35 yearly MOT
£120 yearly service
£120 yearly tax
£30/week petrol
Not good

It sucks to drive in the UK. Car cost me £2,500. Insurance is £1,000. And the worst thing about it, its not even brand new. Five year old. But I spent about £400 on lessons as well. Petrol is cheap for me though.

The first car I ever drove was a clio - also silver. The owner was a nutter though and he managed to get everything out of the car - things you'd think weren't possible. It naturally broke (they can break!) but I don't blame the car. They are normally extremely reliable & they're fun to drive.
My car:
Alfa Romeo GTV916 2.0 TS, 150bhp. Going to get it supercharged soon to 230.
