I think just text would be better. I think forums with huge images look tacky.

I think you should allow images, but only small ones, I too have noticed lots of new members using large image signatures, the kind of signatures that you would see on non-serious forums or forums where the admins don't care, this is not what TF is and I don't think anyone wants it to be like that.

Yes, I think tf should allow images in signatures, only if they're small. Or you could put a size limit on the images.
