Dreamweaver is definately a useful application, but nothing can beat hand-coding your own work. If you're looking for a suggestion on which to use, I would suggest both. Dreamweaver allows you to edit the source and newer versions offer some pretty handy tools.

There is not a doubt...hand code. Only nubs use a program for their sites and it is blatantly obvious to the world when viewed.

thats like saying you can build a house without power tools... yeah it can by done, but why?

with dreamweaver 8 - if you use the code view it's just the same as hand coding, but dw8 will close tags for you, end commands, etc... which saves a lot of time.

I don't see a downside to using it, even the design view is getting better (although it's still not perfect).

Hand code always! Editplus or any other simple code editor.

I hand code in dreamweaver. It's so nice to see the site develop while you code

I personally do everything through the source section with Dreamweaver. I just use it to make my end tags which saves me time.

Dreamweaver is a useless pile... I used it back in the day -- but honestly when looking back it seems harder then hand coding. Hand coding is so much easier to understand for me.

I too hand-code in Dreamweaver. The only time I use the WYSIWYG is to make HTML e-mails where, unfortunately, you still need to use tables if you want reliable reproduction across as many mail clients as possible.
