I have never managed my own website before, but if that is what it came down to I would probably just do it myself. That way, my site is in my own hands. I don't have to hire someone to do it for me, and I also don't have to worry about what they may do to it.

It depends on your income. I currently have just one site so I manage it on my own, but if my network ever grows, I'll have to hire people.

It all depends on what type of website it is really, but I tend to manage my own websites.

I'm the same really, if I ever start an online venture small or big I always like to be in control and to lead things, I just like it this way because if i start something i want everything to run as I'D want it to and not some guy that i've hired.

Actually this depends on your expertise and time. For me this will be better to hire someone else (who is expert on this) to managed your website as you can focus on your business expansion.

It depends how automised is the site. And offcourse on the content of the site. If it has to be updated often, you might as well pay some freelancer to do that, or if you enjoy that, do it yourself.
Anyways, it depends on your buget, time, site traffic, site revenews etc.. Only you can make this decision. Or me (for a small fee)

I would rather say how much things you can manage. See you have to think in other way as well , such as how much level of work you can do so that after hiring a administrator you will be relaxed and can create few more idea with the time you are spare.

Its better to start on a smaller scale, learn you way up the ladder and still keep working on your own. Because it is you whom you can trust more than anybody else!

I prefer to work on my own but if, at some point, I'll own more than, say, 10 sites, then I'll probably hire someone for just a few of them. I like to be fully in control of what I do and besides, we can't trust anyone these days :/

It is not hard to "manage" a website. After it is built, it should be pretty much done. If you have any improvements planned you can hire someone for a one time fee. If you mean managing like SEO, you should probably outsource that.
