  Old  Bad Shared Hosting Neighborhood

I know there are a lot of speculations to this topic: "if you share a server (IP address), with sites that have bad reputation, for whatever reason, your site can be blacklisted by search engines. Is this really true? I'm specifically interested in your experiences.

Sites are often blacklisted via IP, so I find that very feasible. Back when I was on a shared host my mail servers got blacklistd by Yahoo for a few days due to the activity of one of the sites on the IP I was on.

That's true but that doesn't seem to be fair. Most small and middle websites (or maybe most websites?) are hosted on shared hosting servers. Is there any way to blacklist the "bad boys" other than banning their shared IP's?

Shared hosting is overall a crap market even at it's peak. The fact of the matter is if you want quality you at least need a VPS.

I agree with that. The problem is that not every webmaster/web owner can afford a VPS, and not every website generates enough profit so that it deserves to be hosted on a VPS.

Its just the way it is though, chances are if it doesn't make enough profit to pay for a VPS it is not a great business. Low monetary services have high costs of their own, case in point the issue of this discussion.

IP is really the only way to do any of it, there is no magic way to determine what comes from where aside from that.

You just need a website and wish to pay $1, what you expect is to have a good service for $20. However, $1 is enough if you just want a website.

That is why I use dedicated IP for sites I really care about and want to make huge profit with. All new sites go to shared accounts until they prove their worth.

VPS is not the best solution because it is still on a dedicated server and the IP you got might have already been blacklisted.

Get your own server is not the best solution either because you can use the money to by a bigger TV, why not?
