submit articles to related article sites, not free for all article sites. Comment on blogs and forums to gain a reputation and join social networking sites

Don't overlook the power of press releases also. A well-written press release can spread like wild fire throughout the internet community.

Take your time, be "anal" about things and make sure like what quentin123 said post quality content. Having worthwhile information to share is worthwhile to your traffic. Also, make sure that you do not use the meta keywords tag but instead write it on a piece of paper and use that as a guide as you do not want competitors knowing your keywords. Stick to about eight keywords max and use alternate text on every link/image. I am just starting to learn about SEO but I feel that's the most logical way that googlebot would be lurking your website, along with quality incoming/outgoing links.

How about offering something unique?

Most people forget that they themselves would not spend a lot of time on a site which is just like some thousand other sites. Find something that which can make your site unique and watch as people visit your sire and return regularly. Of course, the challenge is in starting as you have to come up with that something which is unique.
