Microsoft Ads on Vista welcome screen!
Microsoft's new OS Vista "Welcome Center" screen, seen by all PC users when they start their computers, will display ads. Because that practice has caused complaints, the company is facing trouble from the U.S. Department of Justice as well as states attorneys general who are considering legal action. A report was filed last Wednesday with the judge handling Microsoft's antitrust compliance.
With millions if not billions of people viewing that screen on initial boot at least a few times a week, calling it prime advertising real estate is an understatement. While TV has died as a mass media, Microsoft's "Welcome Center" will cause marketers to drool over its reach but cause extreme concern among those who feel Microsoft will use the space to promote the company's own products.

True Story. What do you think? If this is true, then I will really be considering using Mac OSX on all my PC's. Surely Windows wouldn't be that low? Some of you will say loads of software have ads (MSN, AIM etc..) But there Freeware. You may also sary that you can hack it so their isn't ads but why should you have to? I think this is really low
What do you think guys?

I think its legal for them to do it since they arn't making you buy their product. It wouldn't stop me from getting vista, I would just take the ads out manually.

meh, that's microsoft as we know it eh. those neat little tricks like trying to disable installing divX on windows, and now this.if this is a true fact, this will attract a wole bunch of people that want to advertise. the patch willhelp advanced and professional use, but newbies (90% of pc users) will never know about it's excistence (same as firefox vs ie now, except that firefox is gaining slowly.)

I wouldn't put it past em, but it can't happen, and so wont happen. They simply wouldn't be allowed to do it. It's basically spyware pre-installed on your PC

I think this is really low as Microsoft are conserned about Piracy i think its barberic. I think there going to be losing a lot of potential Customers with this as most companies plus me are conserned about Adware and what it can do the Computers. I think many people are going to Complain about this. I might consider switching to Mac's.

I still use Windows 2000, and I think it's better than XP by a long shot.
I use XP here at work, so I've extensively used both. Windows 2000 is a solid OS, I doubt I'll updgrade to Vista either unless there is some feature or software I really need and can't have with win 2000.
