wii
http://revolution.nintendo.com/
The previously dubbed revolution is now called.....Wii.
Introducing … Wii.
As in “we.”
While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer.
Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with their games … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
Wii sounds like “we,” which emphasizes this console is for everyone.
Wii can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just Wii.
Wii has a distinctive “ii” spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play.
And Wii, as a name and a console, brings something revolutionary to the world of video games that sets it apart from the crowd.
So that’s Wii. But now Nintendo needs you.
Because, it’s really not about you or me.
It’s about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything.

Main reason I dislike it: 'Wii' sounds like 'we'.
They're playing such a dirty trick, if someone says 'we' (which they will!) they or someone around them is going to think of the Nintendo Wii and it'll probably start a conversation about the system.
It's like this game called The Game, where if you think about the game, you lose. Which means if someone says 'Game' you will probably think about the game and have to start over again. The longer you go without thinking of the game the higher your score is, etc.
So dirty!

I saw this at over at BBC Tech news, if this is true I feel sorry for all those who have built up communities with the name Revolution in their domain haha

The word 'Wii' as in the Nintendo System is never going to take over the english word 'we'. It is too commonly used. More likely, you will be talking about the nintendo system, and someone will say "Who's We?"

I'm not saying it's going to take over, I'm saying that when someone says 'We' many people will immediately think of the Nintendo Wii and therefore will never be able to get the damned thing out of their heads!

I just found an interesting article speculating that the name is a fake.
Third, and this is a big one, there are no trademarks registered by Nintendo nor by any dummy corp in the U.S or over there for Wii. This is unprecedented for Nintendo and it is not possible that his is an oversight. If Wii were the name, they would have registered it. In fact, no new trademarks have been registered by Nintendo at all. This leads us to conclude that Nintendo has in fact registered the real name under a dummy corp, which is SOP when trying to keep a name a secret prior to launch.
