  Old  Freelance Giveaways Guidelines

Hi everyone,

With this new forum there is a few new guidelines you need to be aware of:

Giving items away carry unique responsibilities for everyone concerned. As a vendor you must specify what kind of license you are giving away with the product. By license I mean either full copyright, limited license, creative commons license etc. Your licenses can mean various different things.

  • Giving away a Copyright: This essentially means you are handing over ALL rights to the said work. It means you can not claim title to the work, you can not use the work in anything else, you can not keep the original files to the work. The work essentially becomes the other persons work in every respect.
  • Giving away a limited license: This means you can specify exactly what your are prepared to give away. You keep the copyright but can allow the people using your work to do various things with it. My standard limited license allows my clients to use the work in any manner they see fit, but can't alter the work, resell the work, claim title to the work or restrict me from using the work. You can have as many different limitations as you like.
  • Giving away a creative commons license: This very similar to a limited license, it can be created online here.
If you are giving away services or products make sure you have reference to one of the above licenses in your post. If you are wanting to keep an item a vendor is giving away make sure you are aware of the items limitations of use (license).

Talkfreelance is not able to enforce copyright law, as the matter is between the infringer and the owner of the original work. We are also not qualified to offer legal advice to members.

If you feel that an original creation by you has been used improperly, in a way that violates your rights, it is your responsibility to pursue the matter with the infringer. Please do not involve Talkfreelance or Talkfreelance Staff in your dispute by posting your grievances publicly; the posts will only be removed and you will receive a warning. These matters must be dealt with privately.
