It would be easy enough to merge all the marketplace threads into one stream. It would give more exposure to each new post, and if a buyer was after something particular, a simple 'filter' function could be used to break down the the threads by market (domains, websites, templates) and/or price.

The site is undergoing a complete redesign right? Why not address this "OMG where do I start?!" problem there. Personally, I never visit the homepage (deliberately) and browse via the "view posts from today" feature. Skimming over the rubbishy marketplace and no-content threads in that view is a matter of averting my gaze. At this stage where a day's posts don't take up more than a couple of pages of results even viewing a whole day (or weekend) of activity at a glance means a single click.

We have taken your feedback into consideration and have started to revamp some of the forums in order to simplify their structure. Starting with the marketplace, there will no longer be budget/premium forums, rather a single forum for each item category.

Here are some of the changes made so far:

Looking For / Wanting to Sell Products
http://www.talkfreelance.com/forumdisplay.php?f=61

Premium Websites / Budget Websites
--> Websites

Premium Designs, Templates, Skins / Budget Designs, Templates, Skins
--> Designs, Templates, Skins

Premium Domain Names / Budget Domain Names
--> Domain Names

Services Offered / Looking to Hire
http://www.talkfreelance.com/forumdisplay.php?f=82

Programming or Coding / Budget Programming or Coding
--> Programming or Coding

We will continue to watch the structure of the forum to see where other improvements can be made.

I think that is a great first step with the marketplace. I think the following might be worth consideration:

-Merge all the programming forums, they cover similar topics and see very little activity on their own
-Merge the graphics design forum with exception of The Gallery Showcase and Designers Portfolio's (is that proper grammar for the name?)

I think things would be nicely consolidated after that.

Thanks Artashes, no-one ever respected those budget-differentiated forums in the Marketplace anyway and given the level of activity it's not like folks will "miss" higher-priced items beneath a flood of budget goods.

If there was a way to keep the existing forums (or some easy way of filtering), for those who might want to browse only the area(s) they're familiar with yet also present everything within a category in a single place (by default, to give the impression of activity), that would be awesome.

Grammar never really was Big Zee's strong point.

vBulletin does support a tagging system.. Could always utilize that as a "filter" of sorts but that would require the OP to include them. So that might not be that reliable :\

I can tell you right now that it would not be used, it would probably just add more confusion that it would solve.

VG, there are still a number of forums that can easily be merged, including the programming forum.

Yes, "tagging" was my initial idea, but unfortunately, in my experience, it does not work on forums - people are too lazy to mark threads appropriately. I will look for a special hack that would force users to specify the sub-category when creating a thread - and that would tag the thread next to its "title" (similar to Gmail labels), if at all possible.

A quick note:

Webhosting and Domain Chat forum was renamed into
Web Hosting and Domain Names forum.

The URL is unchanged: http://www.talkfreelance.com/forumdisplay.php?f=62

Updated change to forum structure:

Business and Website Management section of the community forums
http://www.talkfreelance.com/forumdisplay.php?f=73

Marketing and Advertising forum with its sub-forums Search Engines and Advertising were merged into:
--> Advertising, SEO and Social Marketing

It was noted that a lot of search engine or advertising threads were created in the parenting forum and there was really little difference between "marketing" and "advertising".

The forum is still available via its URL:
http://www.talkfreelance.com/forumdisplay.php?f=48
