I learnt both HTML and CSS in a week by using http://www.codeacademy.com

Unlike reading a book , it's all interactive and exercise based. Also a great community , so if you have an issue , it's likely someone before you has had it so all the answers and aid can be found in the forums.

Hope it helps you as much as it did me!

Valdis

I think w3schools web site is a best place to learn web programming and designing.

That's a great list , i've used w3schools a dozen times.... but if you really want to learn html and css, you should combine those websites and just go program in your spare time... and try things out... go try to make some great designs and make mistakes... you learn the most of making mistakes and fixing them
