You don't, but if it's an unwanted (or untargetted) email soley to serve the purpose of advertising it would be considered spam. Which I believe is illegal, although probably only in big amounts.

Yes, i'm quite aware of what "spam" is aros, but just to clear this up for your own benefit as well as others of this community.

"Unsolicited means that the Recipient has not granted verifiable permission for the message to be sent. Bulk means that the message is sent as part of a larger collection of messages, all having substantively identical content."

A message is Spam only if it is both Unsolicited and Bulk.

So for example, youngcoders who i mentioned in the lounge sent out a bulk e-mail to 100 or so people advertising their website. That is both unsolicited and bulk in nature. Making their matters worse, it was mined e-mail addresses.

If you wish to discuss spam in further...create a new thread, lets not hijack Daves introduction!

Hello,

My name is robert ryall and i used to run a banner design firm www.banners2go.com. I have recently taken over running a freelance design and programming community www.talkfreelance.com. I would like to invite you to the forum as i feel your services would be of benefit within the community.

Talkfreelance has only been under my wing for the last several weeks, since then we have seen an increase of 300 members, a brand new skin and several new elements for the community. The website currently drives 700 uniques per day and is a great place to advertise your services and get clients.

I hope you will accept my invitation and i look forward to hearing from you.

Just some grammar mistakes
