Old  Setting Domain NameServers (how long it will take?)

I've hosted with a couple of hosting providers out there and when I asked them how long it will take for my domain to take effect after set the nameservers, all of them told me that it would take up to 6 hours. Wow! I recently register a domain with Yahoo Small Business and setup the hosting nameservers. I was surprise that it went into effect instantaneously. I couldn't beleive it, but it happened. Maybe I was lucky! What do you think? Have similar experiece?

Domains can take upto 24 hours to be activated. They are setup instantly on the hosts side of things but i believe they have to wait for the datacenter to do something or another hence it taking upto 24 hours.

You need for your ISP to update their servers so it can see the changes in the DNS of the domain name.

And yes, you are EXTREMELY lucky. On average, my domains take AT LEAST 48 hours to propagate. It sucks... bad.

48 hours is extremely a long time. I was ecpecting to wait that long, but for some reason I was prompted to check my website after I set the namservers with yahoo. My site was there. Anyways, I think it usually take around 24 - 48 hours depending on the domain host.

If you use "URL FORWARDING" it instantly redirects to your website.

Here is the truth, if your registar which 99% are you will be live in less than five minutes via root servers. They implemented Rapid DNS (verisign) which means it is updated instantly. It does not take the 24-48 hours any more. This could of been done years ago but with Verisign it takes a while. I think the .orgs have always been in rapid dns. As you know Verisign owns the .com .net land.

The only reason why it might not show up is cuase of your ISP dns and I have not yet had a problem with this. Always check out www.optiview.com to double check before sending in support tickets
