i used to use Fireworks until i learned Photoshop.

but u gotta understand they are two different programs for two different purposes.

Photoshop is more raster art and everything while fireworks is more for like vectors and stuff and isnt really for the stuff that photoshop can do.

Photoshop and Illustrator is the ultimate combination as they work so closely together. Simply unbeatable and easily the best on the market.

If your gonna use FireFox for vectors.... You might as well use Illustrator.

Photoshop for the win .

Photoshop for me, once you learn what everything does on Photoshop it is a much better tool then fireworks and can do so much more and is much more customizable and has better resources.

I think you mean Fireworks, not Firefox. If you decided to go with micromedia software for vectors, I would use freehand and not fireworks

I use Photoshop and Illustrator.

Question: Won't Fireworks and Freehand be discontinued since Adobe and Macromedia merged?

yeah photoshop is an overall better program

but its hard to compare them both since they are for different purposes. but fireworks handles vectors and paths and stuff better.

also i think macromedia programs have a much better work interface/canvas

I think since Adobe bought Macromedia they might end up merging Firework and Photoshop...which will suck because Fireworks is a lot less expensive than Photoshop, and I wont have that alternative anymore...
Anyway, I much prefer Fireworks - perhaps just because it's what I first learnt, but also because to me it makes more sense - for instance how it handles vector objects as objects as opposed to photoshop which (as I understand it) handles vector objects as simply outlines for filling.
And like Shawon says the UI is much better.
