I haven't up to this point... but if I can sell some of my designs, I'm going to buy Adobe Creative Suite CS2

I use to download and use pirated software, I stopped it when I went fully legit.

I own Photoshop CS, Illustrator 9 (can't afford cs quite yet), GIF Animator, Swish Max, Photoimpact XL and ColorImpact.

I also have a ton of free open source software like Filezilla, Terragen, Blender 3D etc...

I fully recommend all of you to purchase the software, if you don't then companies that make it will go broke. If they go broke then they won't be able to make software anymore.

I JUST bought the upgrade to Photoshop CS for Windows (not CS2, don't like it...) and I've had CS for my Powerbook for quite a while now along with Final Cut Pro HD and After Effects 5.5 Std. I just snagged up a copy of the Illustrator CS upgrade (again, I see no point in CS2). I won a copy of 3ds Max 7 so I don't have to upgrade (I'll be on subscription very soon for the free 3ds Max 8 update). I also just bought and upgraded to After Effects 6.5 Pro for Windows (now my Powerbook is a tad outdated). I bought Zbrush 2 at the Siggraph convention......I also own licenses to Flash MX Pro and Director MX.

Other than that, it took me forever to upgrade. I was on Photoshop 7 for the longest as well as Illustrator 9/10. For coding I use Notepad2 or Crimson Editor. I use free FTP software as well as free encoders for video.

I started with all educational versions of the software. Going to the Siggraph conventions each year has opened up my eyes about the software industry. They put in a lot of hard work and give back to the community. Plus I've won stuff each time I've gone and they throw killer parties So those of you that are under age or still in school, don't rule out educational software....Adobe has a policy that allows students to use their educational versions commercially.

That's what I intend to do once I get enough money.

*ahem* I highly doubt it....quite apart from the freelancers who buy their software, think of all the schools and design studios that pay for volume licensing of their products. i don't think they're likely to be going broke anytime soon..

In Canada you can just say you're in school and they usually believe you. :P
That's how I got a discount on Office 2005.
