Coding Site Designs
I was just wondering when hiring a coder does the design of his/her site add any weight to whether you will hire them or not?

For coding, all I care about are examples with proof.

I think it depends on the client.
If he knows anything about coding, he will take a look at the code, and see if it's valid. If not, he'll look at the design.
And that really sucks, I want to redesign my site, but I just finished coding it, and it would be tons of work LOST!

I've not ever hired a coder before, but:
In a way, it does affect how I percieve them.
Say, if they're using an amateur/free design, then I will get the impression that they don't care about their business enough to invest in a professional design.

In addition to what Indy said, if I were to hire a coder, a very complicated design which acts more like another example than a main site design would be nice, seeing as it shows what they can accomplish if their examples are all rather simple.

When I had the purple design up for XHTML This, I got a lot of clients. When I sold it, I got none. So I defiantly know that it does effect you.

Would you eat in a restaurant that had raw sewage flowing in it's parking lot?

Mock me, fine I'm serious though. The food might be fantastic, but I'm damn sure the puddles of poo will scare you away before you have a chance to find that out.
