I think number 2 is way better.
I like how it showcases every piece of work on the mainpage. Although, its a little harder to navigate.

My preferrence is #2 - I find the first one difficult to follow
and its far too dark!
Just another opinion...
Nick.

Is there a #3? Haha.. jp
Honestly I've never really cared for #1..
And #2 isn't bad, but I think if you changed some fonts and colors around, it could look alot better.

Number 1, even if you're new to tableless coding, I would like to see you make it tableless at some point, the only thing i don't like about it is the "view latest work" hover over, look kind of weird to me :S.

#1 ftw! My eyes like the look of your current one better, even if #2 is coded better.

Yeah, IMO you're a way better designer than you are a coder [That's not to say you're a bad coder]... Thus, you should concentrate on having an amazing design, rather than clean code.

Haha, yea i think it helps alot. Rather then waiting on a bunch of different pages and looking around for 20 mins. Number 2 is way more clean cut and it cuts to the chase fast, and that is generally a good thing.
Just think if you were in a position where you were going to hire a designer. I know if i wanted the design soon, wich most people do, even having to look at someone portfolio for 15 mins can be a huge pain in the ass. The only thing that i would switch on number 2, would be the live preview links. They dont stand out enough. And maybe darken the hover color of the BG behind the links.
