I started off skinning a forum software called Invisionfree, which is basically IPB 1.3. Then I started some web-design, made some signatures, and then I started large pieces, then I started making websites more often, and became more involved in web-design, and my skills evolved like a monkey to a human.

Started 5 years ago with a front page template. Then I tweaked it a bit, then more. In months I was teaching myself to make a new header, then an entire layout. 5 years of working 10 hours a day on my sites and reading countless articles were the secret. And loving this, otherwise the work schedule would have killed me

To be honest, if you purchased the magic design beans, you could of just went ahead and planted those and grow yourself a talent tree. I don't recommend harvasting it more once a week though.

In all fairness, working hard at something will lend results sooner or later. Most of the time, later.
