A waste of money if the site owner is still a small time player. Paying for a backup host you only use it if the first host is down.

Just have multiple back up hard drives internal and external to save your files. Before upgrading a site (blog, forum etc) make sure you make a backup first.

TaeKwonJoe.com is hosted by my all-time favorite host because I know they are extremely reliable, and I've always liked their services, prices and support.

However, I do have a reseller for my other domains or friends who need hosting with a much cheaper host than the one stated above. I didn't go with my original host for this reseller because they cost a lot more for this type of package. I'm usually really sketchy about buying decent hosting packages for dirt cheap, because it usually doesn't work out very well, but so far I haven't had any issues at all. (I paid like $30 for a reseller package for a year. I think it's 30Gb space and 100Gb bandwidth, which is more than enough for me.)

It could be cheaper to just host on a cloud platform rather then uses multiple small webhosting accounts or get the host to do automated backups for your account. Taweem.

I thing that this not a bad idea to have multiple hosting IP . Might be less possibility that your hosting hurt by some cause then u will suffer .That time not a single site, will open if u have multiple site on single hosting .

I can't disagree more, but that's only true in proper context. Let me explain. If you have multiple sites on the same topic, or even different topics, that you want to cross link you will need either dedicated IP addresses for them or host them at different hosts to avoid any possible link farming and negative influence on search engines. Since dedicated IPs are expensive to have, especially if you own a lot of sites, it is much cheaper to host with multiple companies. I have hosting accounts with 3 different companies and so far my strategy works like a charm.

If you have multiple sites, distributing them among different IPs would be very strategic, especially if there is already good traffic in each of them. I mean, it's scary for a host to bug down for whatever reason and all your sites get affected at the same time.

If you are using a host where downtime is that big of a concern, get a new host. It would be better to spend $20 a month on one good host than $20 a month on two not so great hosts. I have one VPS with one of the more expensive (but high quality) hosts out there. I've had them for about 8 months and never gone down once.

I don't think that 1$=1IP is pricey

First of all you won't find dedicated IPs for $1 a year. That price is usually calculated per month. Although sometimes they will give you $1 for the initial year you will be in a surprise after that if you have 20+ domains where you will have to pay at least $200 per year. I guess, who has great money making sites can afford that but beginners certainly can't.

This makes some sense to me but it also would add to my expenses. At what stage would you think this would be a wise idea?
You could choose 2 different data centres, also make sure both DCs have long distance, just in case earthquake etc.
