Is GIMP a good alternative to Photoshop?
I would like to create a logo for my website and I don't want to spend a lot of money on Photoshop right now. Would GIMP work and how hard is it to learn?

GIMP is far inferior to photoshop, but you coud probably do it. I would download it and give it a try.

Gimp is good, but it is lacking the polish/precision of Photoshop.
The extra money spent on Photoshop is worth while, but when push comes to shove, Gimp could be used to design whatever.

Thanks, I'll try it. I know someday I'm going to get Photoshop but the demo I looked at was confusing. Maybe if I dedicate more time to learn it I'll have a better appreciation. In the meantime maybe GIMP will work. Thanks again

I have tried GIMP a week ago. Not only I found it to be extremely resource-intensive, after installing GIMP, Photoshop started to crash and now won't even load. I removed GIMP, but the problem persists. On top of that, I tried reinstalling Photoshop but it won't even let me uninstall the product as well.

Wow, that's a bummer. By resource-intensive, do you mean it puts a strain on your system by dragging the memory down?
I wonder if the two programs share a particular type of .dll. I hope you get your Photoshop back up. That's not good that one program should affect the other that way.

I hate GIMP horrible UI and very limited. If you are looking for a photo editing alternative (since this is the photography forum) check out Acorn on the Mac. http://flyingmeat.com/acorn/
