  Old  Email from paypal ?

i got an email from services@paypal.com It looks like this;

As part of our security measures, we regularly screen activity in the PayPal system. We recently noticed the following issue on your account:

Unusual account activity has made it necessary to limit sensitive account features until additional verification information can be collected.
We have been notified that a card associated with your account has been reported as lost or stolen, or that there were additional problems with your card.

It has a link to verify my records, but when i click on it i get this address:

http://66.111.216.174%20/~steve/.confirm/ blahblahblah

Now im sure that looks like bull**** but im wondering why services@paypal sent it then. Does this look right to you ?

I would be suspicious, I have recently got a few phising e-mails from 'paypal'. Only it takes you to toptoptop.net. I would just leave it, if it was paypal they would be more professional than /~steve, and an IP, doncha think?

They could have used an email spoofer to make it look like it came from another address?

I've gotten a few from Ebay awhile back. Saying that my account was accessed from many places in the world. They went on to list 3 of the places along with IP address and some other stuff. One from Russia, the 2nd one was from China, and I forgot the 3rd one. They said they have frozen my account and to verify and reactivate the account I will have to login using the link below. I can't remeber the link anymore now but it was nothing connected with Ebay

Just so that you know faking an email address is very easy. That is a spoof. To see proof look at the link they provide. It goes to some random IP address and not the paypal's secure member page. That's a phishing mail. Be careful yo Remember kids, don't ever click on those links :P

If paypal has a problem with your account they will display it upon login on https://www.paypal.com - This is a standard procedure. So check their first and if there is no problems then delete the email.

I get tons of these fake emails on a daily basis, they hope someone will enter there username/password in and then bingo, they have access to your account.

Its called phishing.
You should use thunderbird for your e-mail, it automatically filters those out for me, and even so. You can always double check the link in the bottom toolbar...
