Unique
Sociast question here. How often should a profile hit be counted as "unique"?
Like once an hour, once a day, etc.

EDIT: Didn't read the question!
I would say once every 24 hours

It totally depends on what you're trying to achieve with the counter! I think the norm is every 24 hours, but maybe cut that statistic further and have re-visited and new visitor? or something along those lines?

Surely every hit is unique? Do you mean from counting hits from an individual "person" as one?
Just make clear the time frame which hits are being grouped "unique per period of time" where the period can really be anything, 24 hours, a month, since records began. To label something as "unique hits" is a complete waste of time in my eyes, unless qualified with a period of time.

Good news! Sociast should be rolling out the friends system today and has just been whitelisted from twitter.
So if all goes well I should have beta testers in later this week. I will be sure to contact you textz.

I'd use once every few hours, although it is up to you to be honest!
I'd love to try it out too

Hate to turn this into a "I'd like to test it out" post, but I'd like to give it a try when the time comes.. ha.

I was at Kings of code today and one of the speakers was Joe Stump who was the lead architect @ Digg.com until a few days ago & PHP Scalability Guru. He brought up exactly the same thing about digg profiles, quite funny! Pretty freaky infact. Digg does it every 24 hours.
