  Old  Computer MAC Address

I need to get the MAC Address of the computer, or something that cannot change about that computer.

I am working on a more secure banning system, with everybody having dynamic ips, once the ip changes they can log back in. So I was going to try to find something about the computer using javascript or php and add it to the database when they ban the user.

If you know of something or have worked on something like this, Please help. If you have any clues that would be great.

Thank You,
Jordan Martin

The MAC address of a computer is not sent out to your website, so that's out of the question. Banning IP addresses is about as good as it gets really, hence why that's the popular choice.

There are tonnes of things that you can do to attempt to block access if the visitor is banned, but in the end there is no sure fire way to do it.

Yeah a MAC Address won't save you that much. You can't permanently ban someone from your site since the internet is a free place. Everyone has access to it. When you ban someone, you don't ban the person's right to access your site, you just prevent the person from accessing your site through that IP address. There is absolutely no way to permanently ban someone from your site unless you take your site off the net.

Think about it. IP's can change. MAC Addresses can be spoofed. Cookies can be cleared. Cache can be cleared. ISP's can change.
