You could add the image you want to fade into, to your body tag, and add a full width & height div inside the body, that has a background images that fades intro transparent. So when your div tag images ends, your body image becomes visible.

I hope that makes any sense

This makes the most sense,
another option would be to make your background in photoshop as one file with multiple background images inside. But then you lose all of your flexability.
