Are you talking about modifying the PHP code base or the templates? They are both quite different from each other and both seem easily editable by me. In fact the template system seems very similar to vB to me but I have't really looked into it so deeply.

I meant the templates. For me, IPB is very rigid. They all look pretty similar, all the different styles and such.

pay money for a forum: secure
dont pay money for a forum: not secure
I don't agree with that at all, IPB is a very secure forum and it's run by a professional team, just as good as Vb imo. I was a big fan of the product but unfortunatly when it comes to design and support Vb is superior.

I've been looking at different forums which would be IPB and Vbulletin. Phpbb don't really cut it for me. Doesn't look pwerful enough and it get hacked often and all that.

IPB is what I use and it can be changed completely. In terms of Mods, the look and feel. It's not that hard to Mod...well install premade mods that is. I've been watching VB alot and am seeing some nice little features that IPB doesn't have but I check it out and the Skinning part looks difficult compared to IPB.

I've got a board that i've changed alot but if the structure can be changed like how I've seen VB changed around on so many forums would be really cool. If i get the hang of skinning VB i'd probably try it out but no Time.

Overal...I love IPB 1.3..v2 is good but the skinning has changed so I'll take a while to move to it. VB is also great from what I've seen so any of those 2 choices would be good ones.

Oh and pay for your stuff if you really need it man. Last thing u need is a thriving community forum that gets hacked.

vBulletin has the simplest skinning system out of any forum.

It's just template files with code in, and a CSS file.

Basically.

These topics come along so often . I personall much preffer vB i've never enjoyed working with phpbb and unless they do somthing significant i don't think i ever will. If some one was seriously thinking about starting a forum they should always go towards vB

I've tried all 3 softwares and I must say vBulletin is by far the best. That's why even though the other two can be used for free, serious forum owners still go with vBulletin.
