Old  Buying, Developing & Selling On. . . . a good way to go?

Being the laziest designer in the world im always looking for quick ways to make money, whenever i see a really nice design being sold for cheap i always think it would be a great idea to buy it, make a few improvements, code it up with a few sub-pages and sell it on for like twice price or more. . . . i finally decieded to give this a try today and bought a nifty hosting design (PSD only) for $100 im going to develop it and try to sell it on for a profit, now the reason i ask if this is such a good idea is because it wont be my work, the main reason i design atm is not really to make money (as i dont make that much) but to try to improve everytime i make something new. If im doing this however i wont be improving but i will be making easier money so its kinda catch 22 for me

so do you think i should keep on like this or try to sell only my own work? or maybe try to do a little of both?

Have a go at this. if you make big profits, keep on trying your luck with it.
Doesnt need to be your design, you bought it and you can sell it.
Also, doing it so much will give you some great ideas and im sure will lead you onto making some pretty nifty templates

Great way to make a few bob. I have done this before and it's very easy! Best bet is buy cheap stuff from yaxay (these guys don't know any better!) then post them on dnforum.com or namepros.com and they will sell for double!

i have never been to dnforum or namepros before so i will have to check them out, thanks for the tip Robson

If you can make money from it, why try and make yourself when this is easiest ?

As long as you dont cliam to people if they ask that you hand made it, then what is wrong with it ?

That is an awesome buy. I think you should definatly add a few touch ups. Then code it, domain it, and sell it.

But to awnser your topic and not give you advice on what to do with this perticularly.**abc**

If you want to become a better designer, pursue a designing career maybe, then don't do it the the way you just did, obviously. If you like to make easy money from people why not do it? There is no negatives to it except the fact that if it doesnt work, you lost money, and you don't gain exp. Ive been trying to get into what you just did. People sell things so cheap. "I can cry for more than that"-robson. If you want to take money off of people who don't know better, tough luck to them. But ultimatly they will be the ones gaining experience in design, and then focusing careers on design. And you should try to focus a career on computer technologies. Thats what I think. GL either way!

do both ..would be my 2 cents

lots of turnkey sites out there too that u can make $$ of.

especially Dating sites.....

but also i think the important part is getting the right domain for
the site that u are going to sell.....

example dating site:

match.com >> they bought that name for a few Million!!! Yes..Millions!!
just for a dating site...i bet they can ask for tremendous amount of $$ if they ever wanted to sell

Just my thoughts
