Old  How to explain that we do not do "previews"?

Hi there,

I am looking for the correct wording or the best way to tell a prospect that we do not do concept designs for free to check if they want to use us. We dont have the time and it's like entering a competition. Either they hire us or they dont... but need to say this in a nice way... ?

"I'm sorry but we are unable to produce concept designs for you as we are a busy company. We understand why you would ask for a concept design but due to safety issues we only take on work that we know that we are going to be paid for, this is also the reason that we require a 50% payment upfront so we are reassured that we will be fully paid for the work."

I tried, I got a bit confused half way through and perhaps it doesn't make sense, but something like this I think would do

looks good. I sent the following:

"To answer your question: we do not do design concepts without confirmation of the job being a go-ahead. I can understand the fact that you have been burned by this previous designer, but I assure you, we are a respectable company with trade references on request and we will deliver the design that you require without fail."

What do you think?...

It worked by the way, I got the 40% deposit and I am doing the job.

Well I don't think they're "a busy company", from looking at the link in his sig they only have one or two designs... and there's only like an avatar sized image in WordPress.

I just say:

"I'm sorry, no work will be done without me receiving a deposit"

I'd do with Anthony, sounds abit dodgy to me....they're asking for a full preview of the site before paying? I would personally say, multiple concepts and revisions are given in the design process, after all you're a business and the aim of a business is to make money and not being taken for a mug.

I'm with Anthony as well. I always get that contract signed off and 33% deposit before beginning anything with a client.
