  Old  Domain Acquisition

I often find myself sending dozens of emails a day to domain registrants about the possibility of purchasing their domain from them. I'd say less than 1 in 10 of them get back to me (often asking for a ridiculous price). Is there some sort of other way to contact people other than looking them up and attempting to email them? Are there any ways to help and assure that they get my message. I know it's often the case that people buy domains and then go AWOL from the internet, but are there some terms that can help?

It's highly unlikely most of the domains I am trying to acquire are being sold on certain sites. I'm sure some are, but not most. If you mean have I tried domain auction to look for names, I don't - I know exactly what I want and try to acquire the particular one.

As far as i know Seb what you're doing is the only way. Here is the email template that i use that seems to work quite well. I still get about the same amount of responses that you do though (around 1 in 10) but i don't think its that bad.

Hi,

I am very interested in your domain xxxxxx.com. Have you ever thought about selling this domain? I am currently in the market for a domain to fit my new website and this seems ideal. What sort of ballpark price would you hope to get for it if you decided to sell?

Please have a think and get back to me on a price range so i can put in an offer.

I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks,
Jon Wheatley

That's almost identical to mine, but I do mine a bit more formal

Over at NP they said that most people with decent domains get lots of requests and will only respond to offers worth responding too. Basically you pretty much have to make a decent offer in your first email, if you don't get a reply anytime soon, add some 0's.
