Old  Does Directroy Submission Help in Optimitizing a website?

I have a strong doubt. At the beginning of my career as an SEO analyst, i had submitted the details of my websites in some worthless free directories (some of them had ZERO PR). I want to hear from others about it. Are the members still giving importance to it or not?

thanks for the response but i have checked and found that the home page of some of these directories are not even cached by Google. In that case, does it really help?

They do help. You can check them on Google if they show up as one of your backlink with the search query "link:yoursite" or go to the Google webmaster tools.

Well you are right but my point is that does they really help as I have said earlier that some of them are not even indexed by google. Paid directory submission may help us to get valuable back links but it is undoubtedly costly.

Directory submission also contributes a lot in increasing website's traffic. And it's already a part of SEO or marketing your website.

they do help.. you may be concerned because they don't have a PR and most of all not showing up on SERPs. but you see, they can still help with regards to link building. same with article directories. but of course, once a site has a good PR and shows up on SERPs that can help on traffic as well

That is what I am saying. They do not any PR at all. Article submission is a complete different issue because sooner or later they will get PR depending upon the quality of writing and the reputation of the article directory.

I still think directories gives us lots of quality links. When I submit my website details, I always prefer submitting in a web directory with Good page rank
