Old  Hosting Sales - Design or Service?

Many people ask themselves this question, but daren't try and come up with the answer.

Are hosting sales powered by the design of the website, or the service in which the site provides?

Most hosts go over and above on a high quality website JUST to sell their products. The purpose of a high quality professional website is so much more than that. When a hosting company shells out hundreds or thousands on a top quality website, it's not just to sell their services (in most cases). It's to show its visitors how much care and dedication they have thrown into making a successful and memorable brand.

On the other side of the coin, you get the hosting companies with utter crap designs for websites, but offer the best quality uptime and support services.

Is there any mediation? If so, post some links and explain why
