I guess you've been living under a rock if you think domains have no value outside of the site they point to.

Business.com as an example sold for $6m with no associated site or business.

There are tens-of-thousands of other examples that I don't have time to list right now.

really was exited that he would buy my name, but then I thought about this thread..

7,500 USD. Ok.

Do you sell the name only without web site? I'm interested in the name so web site is not so important.

Do you have an appraisal certificate for your domain name?

Domain name is an investment for me. In other words I'm going to sell your name later and make a profit. If I overpay I won't be able to make a profit in the future. It's very important for you and me to know the current market value of your domain.

Of course, we must be sure that you are engaging a reputable appraisal company. I heard many appraisal companies often made inaccurate appraisals. I will only accept appraisals from independent sources I trust.

To avoid mistakes I asked domain experts about reputable appraisal companies in a forum

Just check this posting.

If the appraisal comes higher you can adjust your asking price accordingly. I also hope you can give me 10% - 15% discount of the appraised value.

After I get an appraisal from you we'll continue our negotiations.

How do you prefer to get paid: www.escrow.com, www.PayPal.com check or wire?

Hope we can come to an agreement fast.

Hi everybody,

As a recent victim of this scam, I decided to seek my revenge by creating a site dedicated to this scam. Domain Appraisal Scam is the result.

Hopefully it will help expose this scam even more and prevent many others from falling for this strange scam.

I've just fallen for this scam (I feel like an idiot), but I'm a little confused about something. After I bought the fake "appraisal" and sent him an email about it, he replied with this:

Thank you. Looks reasonable enough and I accept it.

I also paid for appraisal from another source myself. The average of two
appraisals (yours and mine) will give us a fair price.

As soon as the results come at my email address I will let you know the
figure but I will not send this certificate to you, because you may use this
appraisal to promote your name or sell it to somebody else. The results must
come within one business day.

Looking forward to do business with you.
If the scam was just to get money from me via the fake appraisals, why is he still emailing me? Does this scam go further? What is it he's still after?
