Old  Elance.com Vs. Guru.com--which do you prefer?

I'm brand new to the board (hey everyone!), and looking at signing up for some online help, as I could really use some projects. (I'm mostly a print designer in the midwest...looking for more work, preferably in the print medium, preferably in a telecommute manner).

Wondering who uses which, and what your experiences have been like with either page? Are there other online bid areas for projects that you prefer over guru or elance? Is it easy to get work? Do you feel you get what you're being paid for? Are people stingey with their money? Is the work consistant? Does it take a while to build confidence in clients with no feedback?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

Guru is a bit confusing. Elance is good but expensive. You can see reviews of both here: http://freelance-employment-help.com...ance-jobs.html

I think you should focus your efforts locally instead of trying to compete with people from around the world. Build a client base instead of jumping from project to project. It'll be better in the long run for your revenue stream and for creating a list of reference customers. You'll also be able to charge more for your efforts than if you compete with people outside of your area.

Friends,

A new freelance web site has been launched. It's name is "Project Worm". It's much simpler and absolutely everything is free. Reserve your seat before the site takes off
You can post your profile now:
http://www.projectworm.com

Regards.

Project worm looks like a messy Guru clone - but without freelancers or jobs...

Perhaps I'm biased but I suggest Anthillz. Free as well, but not empty...

  Old  Same Same no difference

I have used both and think they are basically the same. The CEO of Guru even says they are basically the same. What I really don't like is the way they act like virtual landlords in their virtual marketplace: Pay 'rent' up front and take a sizeable chunk of each transaction. Plus it's completely $ driven -The more you pay the site the more visibility you get.

There is no site loyalty and having bought services on both sites, seems everyone is scared of getting kicked off once they leave the site and continue the relationship off-site.

The rating is pretty bogus too - over half of the time, the rating isn't done so either they love you or they hate you.

But they both have a solid pool of all sorts of service providers.
I guess starting early and with $65million helps.

I want to see a site that allows me to manage my business. Some times I do the work for someone and some times i just want to farm out the editing or other non core stuff to someone else. E-guru has the wide range of talent, which is important.

Me-2-B.com just launched it's beta site on Tuesday so doesn't have anyone there. But it is different. It's more community and less cold transactions.
The system is set up so the better you do for your customer, the better you do for yourself. Finally a site where everyone has the same goal.

Let's see how it takes off.
Gotta figure, with the economy in the tank, having another avenue to earn an income can't be bad. And once you get a reputation going, there is no need for further advertising - which would be sweet.

Nothing ventured
Nothing gained

cheers

Sam
