Do you put your layers in folders?

Do you group your photoshop layers or do you leave them spread out all over the place? I am pleading guilty on this one as I very rarely put my layers into folders and name them.

That brings me to my second question, do you as a designer re-name each layer you make in adobe photoshop and or other programs you use?

I'm more interested in seeing how many designers out there, like myself ( I'm probably the only one :P ) who does not re-name there layers nor do they group them for the coder.

I always organize layers in groups (this organization includes renaming). Doing so, it's easier for me to find what i'm looking for.

I do, but only once I've finished the design for the page itself.

I rename all my layers, that too with a Capital 1st letter!
And if they can be put in a group, I group them. And rename with a capital 1st letter :P

When ever you design something in Photoshop.you just save your design in psd. format. further you want to change layers give permission.

My advice would be to always organise your layers. When you're freelancing (by yourself) you can get away with giving things rough names simply because the client never really has to open the file - they just need to know that they have the source file if needed.

The problem comes when another person tries to edit your work. It's good practice to keep everything as organised as possible, even down to colour-coding folders. I've worked alongside other people in the past and have often been given really messy files. Don't be one of these people or I'll hunt you down

It depends on how complex the .psd is. If it's something I'm going to working on for a half hour or less, I typically just leave things as they are. If it's something bigger, like a comp, everything is renamed and dropped into folders.

I should add, I very rarely have to share my .psds with anyone. If someone else is going to see it, it will be organized. I'd hate to inherit a mess, so I'm not about to pass one along to someone.

Well, years ago I'd work blindly though the layers. Still this meant wasting a lot of time, so I changed my ways. Now I use groups and the layers are named. It's easier to move elements on the page and also keep track of my design elements.
