Well he's going to wonder how you got the files back. I say you tell him you sold the site and maybe re-brand it with a new domain and use some sort of redirect or use a new design.

Won't he visit the domain and be like "that little bastard!"? You could add an .htaccess redirect for your home IP that returns an error404 page only for the house

Anyhow, hit me up on MSN sometime, I'd like to chat. Tomorrow if possible I'm 5 hours behind today.

How did he got your files in the first place?

Secondly, I think you should stay calm and talk to your Dad about the problem. Ask him what's the REAL problem with him doing a job. Other then that, if he's worried about your school grades. Prove him by getting good grades.

Where does he wants you to work at?

I was in exactly same situation when my father told me that you are just wasting your life by freelancing. Firstly because there's hard way to freelance in my country (no paypal) and Secondly, employers here doesn't believe on freelance portfolio. He had few complaints for me that I wasn't studying and I was getting fat. I got back to track where he wanted me and after that I use all my leftover time to freelance.

To be fair... If you do go through with the getting a 'real job' thing, it will make you appreciate [a lot more] just how great it is to be able to make money from the comfort of your home.

Regardless, best of luck. I'm sure you'll continue coding somehow.

I have to agree with Blue Ire; it does sound like you dad is jealous.

As you already stated, you dad said to you he had to work very hard to earn his money. He now is seeing you make, what he thinks is 'Easy Money', and it's making him jealous.

I would ask him why he is jealous of what you're doing, and tell him he should be happy for you, that you're making money at your age by doing something you learned all by yourself.

I'm just speaking for experience. I grew up dirt poor... now my parents have money, but so do I. My mother is very jealous that I'm mid twenties and nicer stuff and (as of this weekend hooray!) a newer home than she does to this day.

She always manages some comment about our stuff when she comes by.

I'm not against having a manual labour job; quite the contrary it will help you develop a better understanding of the value of a dollar, and for those people who labour all their lives. It's admirable that your dad wants you to work - far to many kids who grow up with money turn out like Paris Hilton , but I think he is going about it all wrong.

Congrats on the new home!

@Garrett, at least you don't have Asian parents, heh.

Possibly offer your dad a proposal which will allow you to continue to freelance. Could mean getting a part-time job though. (Dread the thought). Your dad seems a bit harsh. Both my brothers are in there twenties on benefits and playing online poker

I don't want to get into it too much, as I see it as a bit unprofessonial, but he settled with me going to summer school for 3 weeks instead.
