Old  How important is Flash as a skill

my job is now requiring me to learn flash. I'm familliar with AJAX, and am wondering how valuable this skill is for me.

I'm hoping to hear a yes it is very important, so I get motivate to learn this. If not . . . well that sucks. i'm going to be demotivated.

It is very important as a form of interactive media. If it wasn't important then why would millions of people have in installed into their browsers.

Yes flash has a great install base; however, my question is should is flash a valuable skill to learn if i'm well versed in ajax. Meebo is written in all ajax i think and it is fantastic.

And millions of people installing flash isn't really convincing, because these are consumers, and they've installed it because websites created their product in flash. It isn't a testament that the producer was correct choosing flash.

Tons of people install spyware on their browsers too.

It wouldn't kill you to learn Flash. And plus, you don't need motivation from us to do it.

Flash is good in the areas it is used and since there aren't a lot of people who are extremely good with flash that are on webmaster forums, you could probably get more jobs using Flash.

Flash is one of the best career areas right now. In the industry, Good Flash developers are rare and can command top end salaries.

  Old  not important

compared to the power of other visual things (pics, videos ect) its not always the best way to go, but it is very easy to learn and use and it has some nice capabilities, and it doesent hurt it can always come in handy, deffantly with the small file sizes for tight projects. it is also very easy to update, but in my opinan if you are making a whole site out of flash it is not as good looking as html ect....

Flash is starting to go down with the new Web 2.0 trend, but it's still "common" I guess. It's good for intros and advertisements, as well as websites. I still use it to make websites since i'm not an extremely good coder, and it's easy to piece together in Flash. AJAX is much more powerful now..I wish I knew AJAX instead of Flash.
